Airports all over the UK fly to the Alps, some all year round, some only in the winter season.<\/p>\n

The closest airport is Chambery- 90km or a 90 minute transfer<\/p>\n

Others include Geneva ( 2 hour road transfer), Lyon, Grenoble<\/p>\n

Frequent scheduled transfers run from all airports to the resort throughout the season. Additionally private transfers and taxi are also available as well as the option for hiring a car.<\/p>\n

Remember when driving into the mountains that for most of the winter season you will be required to carry and fit snow chains to your vehicle.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/4″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator border_width=”5″][vc_column_text]\n

Direct trains leave St Pancras\u00a0International\u00a0(London) and Ashfrd (Kent)\u00a0throughout the ski season. Direct day trains to the French Alps leave on Saturdays between December-April and direct night trains on Fridays run between January- April. The trains\u00a0travel through the day or night all the way to Moutiers, which is the closest train station to Val Thorens. From the train station it is an easy and cheap transfer by coach<\/a> up the mountain to the resort.<\/p>\n

Our favourite way to travel means leaving London on Friday evening\u00a0and\u00a0gets you into the resort early on Saturday morning. Travelling home on the late train on the following Saturday gives you the option of 1-2 more days on the slopes!<\/p>\n

During the 2015-16 Summer season Eurostar<\/a> started a once a week Saturday service which gets you from London St Pancras to Lyon<\/a> in 4h 45 mins. A scheduled or private transfer, taxi or hire car would then get you to Val Thorens in a matter of hours. There are 3 trains a week on this service during the summer season.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/4″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator border_width=”5″][vc_column_text]\n

The drive once on the Calais side of France is approximately 9 hours and can easily be done overnight (with sufficient rest breaks and more than 1 driver) or over a longer period, stopping to take in sights and sounds en route.<\/p>\n

Remember when driving in France there are certain requirements <\/a>which we do not have in the UK for what you are required to have in your car<\/p>\n

Parking<\/strong><\/p>\n

You cannot park on the roads in Val Thorens during the winter months, apart from to unload your car for a brief period of time. There are numerous multi story car parks in the resort where you can safely park your car for the week.<\/p>\n
